Kickin It is inviting Virgin Islands residents to participate in a free, one-day Digitisation Drive aimed at saving fragile memories from being lost to time.
The drive will take place on Saturday, December 13th, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Save the Seed Energy Center in Duff’s Bottom. [NEW DATE!]
The Digitisation Drive offers the community a vital opportunity to convert vulnerable physical media including photos, paper documents, VHS tapes, and audio cassettes into modern, lasting digital formats (JPEG, PDF, MP4, and MP3).
What Attendees Can Expect:
Attendees are encouraged to bring their items to the centre. Volunteers will use high-quality equipment to perform the conversion on-site. Every file will be packaged in a secure digital folder and delivered back to the attendee. All original items will remain with the owners.
The equipment used for this drive was made possible by a generous grant awarded to Kickin It by The Guana Fund. The technological suite includes scanners, video and audio converters, and AI-powered software for photo and video restoration.
Building a Community Library:
The event will also serve as a crucial step toward building a shared cultural asset. Community members will be given the option to donate copies of their items to a new Digital Community Library currently being developed by the organisation. This effort will help create a centralised, non-profit resource for future historians, students, and cultural preservationists to explore.
Persons unable to attend the drive can still contribute directly by uploading files securely at virginislandscapsule.com.
Kickin It is calling on enthusiastic community members to lend a hand and assist with the scanning and conversion process. Interested volunteers should contact the organization at contact@kickinitvi.com
