Nothing hits the spot like a GOOD paté when you need something quick and tasty. For those of you who may not know, a paté (pronounced “pah – tay’) is fried dough wrapped meat, similar to Spanish empanadas or Jamaican patties but, better. (I may be biased, however)
It seems like everywhere across the globe has their own version of pairing dough and meat filling but none of them are quite like a Virgin Islands paté. Whether you’re a local that’s just trying to make sure your paté plug made the list or a visitor taking notes for an upcoming trip, here’s where dem man say is the best place to get a paté.
Tortola, BVI 🇻🇬
Top choice: Crandall’s
The salt fish pate from Crandalls slaps fried and baked! The location is central and you know what you’re getting every time. I’ve never had a miss. That coconut shut-up tart and local drink on the side adds to the glory – Kailah
Crandalls bad cause they pretty consistent and they got interesting flavors like conch, lobster & shrimp – Terrance
Crandalls. Availability, variety, consistent taste – Deshawn
St. Croix, USVI 🇻🇮
Top choice: Rosa’s
Rosa in whim on Cruz – Malcolm
Rosas or Quality Rosa’s for her crust/the experience, quality for consistency and filling – Kemia
Corine’s food van in Water Gut has the best tasting and biggest patè – definitely worth the money and Ras Attitude, has the best filling and crust for veggie pate. He’s located in Frangipani, in an ice gold and green shack. My favorite from Ras Attitude is the curry potato and chic peas 🤤 – Lanie
ROSA PUT HER WHOLE SOUL INTO THEM PATES – Jeaiza
Definitely Quality in Princesse. Their pates always give what they’re supposed to give! I’ve tried all of the different kinds they sell (saltfish, beef, and chicken) and they all bang! And, their pates don’t be empty or hard up either. 10/10 – Anurie
Anegada, BVI 🇻🇬
Lil Bits and mmmmmm it’s so good! The dough is literally perfect and they have a variety of fillings, including seafood options – Niqua
St. Thomas, USVI 🇻🇮
Top choice: Jackie’s Food Van
Jackie’s Food Van (airport). The dough is fried crisped to perfection and the fillings are all flavorful with perfect a balance of various seasonings. – Kesha
Jackie by Lindberg Bay because she the one person where just about all her fillings taste good and that’s hard to find. Also because I feel I have amazing taste buds. – Ariel
