The sky behind the palms isn’t blue but a mesmerising blend of hues with bubbles of fiery oranges, deep reds and soft yellows as if capturing the vibrancy of the Caribbean. This is a mural by Jannet Prosper, more popularly known as Planet Jannet to those that follow her journey on social media.
Jannet Prosper is a contemporary artist taking the art world by storm. Her art is a heartfelt reflection of her island upbringing which she constantly draws inspiration from seen in the vividness and diversity of her artist creations. From custom Air Force 1’s made to resemble blooming flowers and plush grass to her most notable creation, Janny Tsunami, Jannet’s deep connection to the Virgin Islands is visible.

Jannet’s journey has taken her from the sun-kissed shores of Saint Thomas to the historic halls of Worcester City Hall in Massachusetts, the state where she now resides. And in downtown Boston, nestled neatly on what used to be an unsightly utility Box, every proudly a Virgin Islander, Janet has left a little piece of home with a mural similar to the one found in Yatch Haven in Saint Thomas.
Jannet’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed, lending to the magnificent talent that she is. She’s been featured in the Virgin Islands Daily News and has even made an appearance in The Shade Room. Fans are head over heels for her work particularly Janny Tsunami which has become a favourite among followers.
Jannet is now preparing for her first ever, highly anticipated solo show. With her vision, she’s ready to redefine Caribbean art. Her upcoming show promises to be a game changer, showcasing her ability to be inventive while still celebrating the unique essence of the Virgin Islands.
