Kickin It is pleased to announce the launch of “The Capsule Project”. This ambitious community initiative aims to preserve and share the rich history of the Virgin Islands, ensuring its legacy for future generations.
“The Capsule Project” entails a comprehensive strategy that includes the digitization, restoration, and preservation of historical archives. Additionally, it involves the creation of accessible and engaging digital exhibitions to promote educational and cultural enrichment. By embracing innovative technology, Kickin It aims to protect the legacy of the Virgin Islands and ensure that its stories endure for years to come.
Kickin It welcomes the participation of individuals, families, businesses, companies, and organizations alike to submit select archives such as photos, videos, documents and audio files to be included in the capsule for safe keeping. By taking part in this initiative, participants can enjoy several benefits, such as:
- Ensuring the long-term preservation of historical archives, shielding them from potential damage or loss caused by various environmental factors.
- Discovering hidden treasures about the unique customs, traditions, and local history that have shaped our community.
- Ability to easily share the magic of the Virgin Islands’ history with friends and family worldwide
- Passing on invaluable insights and knowledge to future generations
We are grateful for the support from esteemed contributors such as Harneys, the Department of Culture and the Virgin Islands Studies Institute at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College. Furthermore, we are honored that “The Capsule Project” has been included in the Virgin Islands National Culture Month calendar of events for 2024. This inclusion further solidifies the importance of this vital endeavor in preserving the heritage of the Virgin Islands.
